Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of Emergency Management is to prepare for and reduce the effects of natural or man-made disasters through planning, mitigation, response and recovery.

National Incident Management System Compliance

The NIMS compliance mandate ensures that all levels of government respond to natural or man-made disasters in an efficient and effective manner. NIMS is comprised of several components involving the Incident Command System, Management of Resources, Public Information and Unified Command.

Objectives

  • Conduct staff training of IS700 to familiarize all staff with the requirements of NIMS.
  • Train directors and elected officials to the IS-Intermediate level.
  • Conduct a county-wide tabletop exercise to reinforce lessons learned.
  • Work with directors to ensure development of county resources to include type and kind.
  • Conduct capability assessment with local response agencies to enhance response to CBRNE incidents.
  • Train responders with courses designed for hazardous materials response to include:
    • Hazardous Materials: Awareness
    • Hazardous Materials: Operations
    • Critical Incident Management
  • Work with NMDPS to secure funding for full-scale exercise in Sept. 2006.
  • Establish timeline for training.
  • Secure location.
  • Establish exercise design time for scenario.
