Commissioner Brandon M. Bustos was born and raised in Ranchitos, New Mexico where he currently still resides. Commissioner Bustos is a graduate of Española Valley High School and is the son of Manuel “Manny” & Sandra Bustos. Mr. Bustos was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2023, making history as the youngest person ever elected to the Rio Arriba County Commission at age 22.
Commissioner Bustos also previously served on the Board of Education for the Española Public Schools, where he served until 2025. Commissioner Bustos served as President, Vice President and as the Executive Secretary of the School Board. Some of Commissioner Bustos focuses on the County Commission is to continue to provide services that will benefit the youth of the County, County Roads, Water, accessibility to better broadband within the County, and public safety.
Currently Commissioner Bustos represents District I on the BOCC, which includes the communities of Chimayo, Cordova, Dixon, Fairview, Española's West Side, Ranchitos, Ojo Sarco, Truchas, and Velarde. Commissioner Bustos says being in this position has been a lifelong dream of his, and that he looks forward to continuing serving all of the constituents of the beautiful County of Rio Arriba to the best of his ability!
