Public Works Facility Groundbreaking to Take Place August 1st

With the first phase completed for the Alcalde Infrastructure Project, Rio Arriba County (RAC) is ready to put on another groundbreaking ceremony to begin construction on another section of the massive undertaking. The community is invited to join County officials and representatives to the Public Works Facility groundbreaking ceremony, which will take place on August 1, 2012 at 10AM at the Alcalde Infrastructure site.

According to the RAC Grants and Contracts Administrator, Philip Morfin, the Public Works Facility will cost an estimated $1,768,105.79, which is being financed by general funds. This facility accounts for about 4.2 percent of the entire Alcalde project.

“This service center/public works facility is greatly needed and has been in the works for a long time,” said Public Works Director Joddie Valdez. “I am happy to say that we are finally going to have a place we can call our own. This new facility provides us a larger working area, which will house our mechanics, all of our fleet, as well as our Public Works and Roads staff. Having an all-in-one facility will allow for us to serve the public more efficiently and will aide us in accessibility, as well as result in better communication internally and externally.”

Guests can join County representative after the groundbreaking at the Alcalde Community Center for snacks and refreshments.
