For the first time, Rio Arriba County will be participating in “Operation Christmas Cheer,” a toy drive hosted by the City of Espanola, for children in need during the Christmas season. The drive will last from November 1st to December 14th. Unwrapped gifts can be dropped off at the following locations: the Beatrice Q. Martinez Senior Center, the Lucero Center, Espanola City Hall, the Espanola Public Library, the Espanola Fire Department, Valley National Bank, the National Guard Armory and the Rio Arriba Recreation Office, located in the Rio Arriba Annex County Building in Espanola. Those who wish to register children for the toy drive must register by December 12th.

“We are very excited to be participating in such a great event,” said Ashley Martinez of the Rio Arriba County Recreation Department. “Being among the entities involved is an honor.” Among those participating in the toy drive are: Valley National Bank, The National Guard, The State of New Mexico Department of Health, KDCE Radio, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Blue Star Mother: an organization made up of mothers who’s children have served in the military.
